Smartphone debuted in the market as a ‘tool for business’ and for long time it justifies its presence among male users. However, the trend is apparently shifting as women are taking over men in aspects of smartphone usage. One would be surprised to know that women install 40% more apps on Smartphone than activity conscious men, according to the latest study over Smartphone App Usage by mobile analytics and advertising company Apsalar.

The study – based upon 500 million Android and iOS users together – exposes few interesting facts about how is mobile usage different for Men and Women. If mobile app developers have any interest, they must focus female users as women buys 17% more paid apps and pay whopping 87% more for those apps. This clearly indicates the growing influence an interference of women in explosively growing mobile industry.

However, Men are still dominating in few of the most process-oriented and finance driven mobile app industries like Business, Games and Navigation while Women are more fascinated towards consumption of information via apps like Social Media, News and Lifestyle. Though women lead in paid-app purchase and over-priced payment for apps, men still lead in in-App purchases – the most crucial revenue stream for any app developer. Men spend 42% more on in-app purchases compare to women.

Yesterday, we showcased how Women in UK are more fascinated towards Smartphone than men. And with the above global findings on Smartphone app usage, it’s evident that mobile app developers must adopt a strategy that could entice a larger female oriented mobile users’ community.
